General Information & FAQs

We operate our own private server on irc.coterieonline.org. Here’s a brief guide on how to connect, so you can begin playing.

Get an IRC client. We recommend mIRC or Visual IRC. Mac users, try xIRC – alternatively, there are some great web-based IRC clients out there if you’re having trouble using your chosen IRC Client. A popular one is Mibbit.

In the text prompt IRC gives you after registering all your information, type /server irc.coterieonline.org. This should connect you to the server. Alternatively, you can set mIRC or other clients up to connect to the server through the ‘tools’ menu.

If you are still having difficulty connecting, please be sure you have your connecting port set to 6667-6670. If you still require assistance, contact a staff member on the forums or make a new thread about your issues, and we’ll be happy to assist you.

From here, you can either join a channel by typing /join and then the channel name, or bring up a list of channels by typing /list. Other common IRC commands can be found at IRCHelp.org.

Your Bot – Myrmidon

Myrmidon sits op’d in all channels as @Myrmidon. The bot records every line of text, action and roll made by every player and all of that information is available to the storytellers. The bot also serves as the primary way for players to interact with each other and the environment through rolls, stat tracking and general bot commands. A full listing of Myrmidons recognized commands is also available.

Creating your first Character

Before creating a character, understand that we do not require players to be intimately familiar with the setting; either the World of Darkness as a whole or New Marseille specifically.  A basic guide to character creation is available on our wiki, as are specific house rules regarding character creation.  We only accept Neonate characters of the Seven Great Clans of the Camarilla or Caitiff.  See the Coterie Wiki for more information on character creation rules.

To actually create the character, go to our sheets system and register a username.  After completing registration, you can log in and click on the Create New Sheet tab of the sheet interface to start generating your character.  Math is handled automatically by the sheet and clans that are closed for play are not selectable on the drop down menus.  After your sheet has been submitted for approval, connect to the server and talk to a Storyteller in #GameHelp to get approved.  Once the approval is complete, there are only a few arbitrary steps to getting your characters description set up and you’ll be ready for play!  If for some reason your sheet is not approved, you will be able to edit your sheet for the requested revisions via the same sheet interface you used to create it.
