Experience
Our system for gaining experience points is similar to the storytelling style presented in the book, where you – the player, request experience based on your own opinion on your gaming experience over a set period of time. Storytellers will review your request, approve or adjust your request, and possibly add bonus experience points at their discretion.
Using the bot functions listed here, you may request XP once every week before Monday at 12:00am est (That’s Sunday night) based on these parameters:
Request 1 XP point: Your character learned something valuable this week.
Request an additional point for 2XP: You furthered personal storylines by roleplaying with your character’s allies or contacts, through actual gameplay – not just spending time in #gamehelp.
Request a third point, for 3 total XP: Your character participated in major storylines/got closer to, or accomplished a personal goal in some way.
The storytellers, having access to all of the logs, will review your request and if we agree with your assertion on XP, your request will be granted no later than Wednesday at 12:00am est (Tuesday night). If the staff decides your request is off for some reason, you will be notified via PM on the forum, and you may come into #gamehelp to ask any questions you have.
The Storytellers will frequently grant bonus experience points, up to a combined total with your normal requested xp of 5xp to individuals who go above and beyond, or accomplish great things. Some things which will gain you bonus experience points:
Excellent Role Playing: You may have acted against the best interests of yourself as a player, because it’s what your character would have done. You may have played a particular scene very well, or impressed your fellow players and the staff with your writing or characterization.
Major Accomplishment: Maybe your character dislodged an enemy from a major city position, or accomplished a major personal goal. Perhaps your character overcame insurmountable odds, or made an enormous turn around from a bad situation.
Contribution: You may have become a highly integral part of the game through some means – being on “a lot” does not qualify – your character must be involved in many storylines, and highly visible – the kind of character that everyone gets to know, and has a relationship of some kind with everyone, good or bad. This reward will not be handed out every week to the same players if they are consistently playing a lot, it’s an incentive to become involved, not to stagnate and do the same thing each week.
We may award bonus XP for other reasons – when you are awarded bonus XP, you will be notified in a PM on the forum as to why you are receiving the bonus.
The XP guidelines are subject to change at any time.
